Apparently the American word of the year was 'gif'.

Hey all, I have no idea why gif is the US word of the year. That is pretty lame. The UK choice of omnishambles is a much better word, but I especially like Romneyshambles. In my opinion, a much better choice for the US word of the year would have been nomophobia, for instance:

What do you guys think?

Hi 89rules,

Gif does seem an odd choice - it's been around for years, at least as a noun. Do you know if nomophobia is used much? I must admit that I'd never heard of it.

Hey all

Thanks to hk for the link. I really enjoyed listening to that edition of 6 Minute English.

By the way, has anyone out there heard of any other "mutated" words that include the -shambles suffix, besides Romneyshambles?

Cheers,
Yama

Hey Ponsomime,

Cool list. Thanks.

I still think the best one is Romneyshambles, but I kind of like somnishambles, too.

Cheers,
Yama
