I read this in an article on German words in English- shtum is supposed to be one of them. But i can't get much out of this definition - help please, what is the meaning - in German - thank youi so much

Nope. What you should totally do is keep shtum – i.e. keep Mum, Mum's the word, keep it zipped. Keep it to yourself. It's from the Yiddish, and that is totally how it's spelt in ENGLISH.
