I' came across a strange phrase and I did'nt understand exactly what it means.

the po calling the kettle back

Has anybody heard that or can give a context how this is used?

Traditionally, both pots and kettles are made from black cast-iron. If something is said to be like "the pot calling the kettle black", it is thought to be hypocritical.

Traditionally, both pots and kettles are made from black cast-iron. If something is said to be like "the pot calling the kettle black", it is thought to be hypocritical.

It could also be that this idiom is from a time when pots and kettles were used over coals, making them dirty and black over time. It is a very common saying in English. If someone wants to accuse another directly of hypocrisy, they might say "Pot, meet kettle."
