In German we generally use nouns together with their articles.

The article tells us the gender (masculine, feminine, neuter), number (singular, plural), and case (nominative, accusative, dative, genitive) of the noun.

Im Deutschen verwenden wir die Nomen meistens mit Artikel.

Am Artikel erkennen wir Genus (maskulin, feminin, neutral), Numerus (Singular, Plural) und Kasus (Nominativ, Akkusativ, Dativ, Genitiv).

Der Junge will einmal Profifußballer werden. The boy wants to become a football pro someday.

predicate noun There’s often a noun in the nominative form after the verbs sein/werden/bleiben – this is, however, not the real subject of the sentence, but rather a predicate (it assigns a characteristic to the subject).

Example:

Der Junge will einmal Profifußballer werden.

prädikativer Nominativ Hinter den Verben sein/werden/bleiben steht häufig ebenfalls ein Nomen im Nominativ – dies ist allerdings nicht das richtige Subjekt, sondern ein Prädikativ (es weist dem Subjekt eine Eigenschaft zu).
