Hi All,

Is there a German expression equivalent to ‘against the run of play’ – i.e. when a football (soccer) team scores a goal when the other team has had most of the possession/opportunities.

e.g. “Radamel Falcao headed in to put the home side in front before Jonas tapped in to equalise against the run of play.”

thanks in advance,

Hey all,

FYI, another way of saying "against the run of play" is something like:

"just when the game (or "all") seemed lost"

'which came as a surprise, since the other team seemed to be in total control of the game at that point"

Hallo DaveP,

Not sure exactly, but at 1:1 in the Bayern München Real Madrid match last week, the German commentator was hoping for a “Lucky Punch” (using the English expression) :)

It’s not quite the same, but the best I can come up with I’m afraid.
