Confederazioni sindacali Info
- These are the three large Italian trade unions which represent all categories and sectors of workers. The CGIL (Confederazione Generale Italiana del Lavoro), once Communist in orientation, the CISL (Confederazione Italiana Sindacati Lavoratori), Christian in orientation, and the UIL (Unione Italiana del Lavoro), Social-Democrat in orientation, have played a central role, especially during the 1970s and 1980s, in Italian politics and the Italian economy, by forging alliances and working together. Following recent transformations of the economy and the job market, their unity of action has been damaged and their role downsized with the rise in autonomous trade unions for particular sectors.
