Ein dipolar aufgebauter Lautsprecher, wie z. B. eine offene Schallwand, gibt die akustische Energie nach vorne und hinten gegenphasig, d. h., er erzeugt nach vorne Druck und zeitgleich nach hinten Unterdruck- oder umgekehrt.
Durch den Druckausgleich in Membrannähe (akustischer Kurzschluss) geht dabei ein großer Teil der Bassenergie verloren.

The pressure compensation in the proximity of the membrane (acoustic short-circuit) means that a great part of the bass energy is lost.
