Three Congolese universities awarded him honorary doctorates between 2006 and 2012.

At present, BEBUC supports nearly 140 young scientists at 20 Congolese institutions.
The Excellence Scholarship Program BEBUC was founded in 2008 by Gerhard Bringmann, holder of the Chair of Organic Chemistry I at the University of Würzburg, and Virima Mudogo, professor of chemistry and alumnus of the University of Würzburg, at that time Vice-President of the University of Kinshasa.
