Prof. van Hemmen studied physics and mathematics at the University of Groningen (NL), and completed his doctorate there in 1976.
Following a year of postdoctoral research at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques (IHES) in Bures-sur-Yvette near Paris, he spent a further year as assistant professor at Duke University (Durham, NC).
www.professoren.tum.deProf. van Hemmens Forschungsgebiet ist die zellulare theoretische Biophysik, sowohl die theoretische Membranphysik als auch die der neuronalen Informationsverarbeitung verschiedener Sinnesorgane, insbesondere der Mechanosensorik wie in der Schallortung der Schleiereule, der Ortung aquatischer Objekte über die Seitenlinie von Krallenfrosch und Fisch, beim Infrarot-Sehen bestimmter Schlangen sowie deren multimodale Integration.
Prof. van Hemmen (*1947) studierte Physik und Mathematik an der Universität Groningen (NL), wo er 1976 promovierte.
