Mitochondrien mit der dort ablaufenden Atmungskette sind die Energiekraftwerke der Zellen und kommen verstärkt in Geweben mit hohem Energiebedarf – wie dem Herzen – vor.
Komplex I, die NADH-Dehydrogenase, ist das erste Enzym der mitochondrialen Komplexe (MC) und folglich ein mögliches Target für MPI-Tracer.
