Auf seinen Forschungsreisen, aber vor allem in den urbanen Zentren Argentiniens, beschäftigte er sich mit Fragen zur Mythologie, Ethnologie und Linguistik der Indigenen, sowie mit der Folklore, insbesondere der „ Gaucho-Kultur “ des La-Plata Gebietes.
Nach seiner Pensionierung 1930 kehrte er nach Deutschland zurück, wo er 1938 in Berlin verstarb.
