Der Stab KSK ist ein spezialisierter Stab zur Planung und Führung von Sonderoperationen sowie weiterer Einsätze der Spezialkräfte auf taktischer Stufe.
Er ist analog einem Stab in einem Grossen Verband zusammengesetzt, d.h. mit einem verlegbaren Kernstab aus militärischem Personal und einer Mehrheit von Milizoffizieren.
