Prof. Stilla studierte an der Gesamthochschule Paderborn, wo er 1980 mit dem Dipl.-Ing. im Fachbereich Nachrichtentechnik abschloss, und an der Universität Karlsruhe, wo er 1987 mit Dipl.-Ing. in der Biomedizinischen Technik abschloss und anschließend als Wiss. Mitarbeiter tätig wurde.

Prof. Stilla studied at the University of Paderborn, where he qualified as a communication engineer in 1980.In 1987, he obtained a diploma in biomedical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe.After that, he remained in Karlsruhe for a few years as a research fellow.
From 1989 to 2003, he lectured in biocybernetics as part of the medical informatics course at the University of Heidelberg and Heilbronn University.
