- O Bachelor's degree é o título dado aos estudantes ao concluírem alguns cursos universitários de três anos (às vezes, de quatro a cinco anos). Este título tem um nome diferente de acordo com a área. Os mais importantes são:BA (Bachelor of Arts) na área de filosofia e ciências humanas, BSc (Bachelor of Science) na área de ciências biológicas, BEd (Bachelor of Education) para a área de pedagogia, LLB (Bachelor of Laws) para os estudantes de Direito e BMus (Bachelor of Music) para os estudantes de Música.

- Na Grã-Bretanha dá-se o nome de Master's degree ao título acadêmico que se obtém ao se finalizar uma carreira depois da defesa de uma dissertação (dissertation). O Master's degree recebe nomes diferentes de acordo com as disciplinas: MA (Master of Arts), MSc (Master of Science), Mlitt (Master of Letters) e Mphil (Master of Philosophy). Por outro lado, na Escócia a expresão MA designa um primeiro título acadêmico.
