The Presidente del Consiglio , the Italian Prime Minister, is the head of the government. He or she proposes ministerial candidates to the Presidente della Repubblica and is responsible for those appointed. He or she is appointed by the Presidente della Repubblica after a vote by party leaders, former heads of state, Presidente della Camera , and the Presidente del Senato (the speakers of the two chambers). The Presidente della Repubblica is the head of state. He or she must be an Italian citizen and at least 50 years old. He or she holds office for seven years.
The Consiglio dei Ministri is the Italian cabinet. It is chaired by the Presidente del Consiglio (Prime Minister) and its members are taken from among the government ministers.
