- A popular event that takes place twice every year in Siena, on 2nd July and 16th August (Palio dell'Assunta). The contrade or districts of the city fight for the palio, a banner, in a cut-throat race on horseback around the medieval Piazza del Campo. It has deep historical roots but is still passionately followed by the Sienese and is a huge attraction for tourists from all over the world. There is a spectacular historical procession in brightly coloured Renaissance costumes before the race.

- The Palio is a horse race that is run in a number of Italian cities. The best known is the Palio di Siena . This race dates back to the 13th century and is run twice a year, on July 2 and August 16 in the Piazza del Campo in Siena. Ten of the city's seventeen contrade (districts) take part; the winner is the first horse to pass the winning post, whether it still has a rider or not. Before the race there is a procession with members of the various districts dressed in historical costumes.

The Palazzo del Viminale , named after one of the Seven Hills of Rome, is the home of the Interior Ministry. The Palazzo del Quirinale , named after one of the famous Seven Hills of Rome, is the official residence of the Presidente della Repubblica .
