We call them Mahagony-Cycles, because our almost exactly 100 years old grand piano (mahogany veneer) is the special asset.
This excellently restored grand, 220 cm long, was built under Ludwig Bösendorfer in 1908, and this can be heard and seen.

Since the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation purchased three new concert grand pianos in the last two years, the idea arose – together with Alfred Brendel – of auctioning off the instrument in aid of UNICEF.
The auction took place as part of the open day on Whit Monday, 28th May 2012 in the concert hall of the Philharmonie in the presence of Alfred Brendel, Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Die Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker hat in den letzten zwei Jahren drei neue Konzertflügel angeschafft. Daher entstand gemeinsam mit Alfred Brendel die Idee, den Flügel zu versteigern – zu Gunsten von UNICEF.
Die Versteigerung fand im Rahmen des Tags der offenen Tür am Pfingstmontag, 28. Mai 2012, im großen Saal der Philharmonie in Anwesenheit von Alfred Brendel, Sir Simon Rattle und den Berliner Philharmonikern statt.
