A CDS is a bilateral financial contract where the seller effects an equalization payment if credit default occurs previously to the stabilized event of the credit.

Ein CDS stellt einen bilateralen Finanzkontrakt dar, in dem der Verkäufer eine Ausgleichszahlung leistet, falls vor Ende einer festen Laufzeit des Vertrags ein Kreditausfall auftritt.
Im Gegenzug leistet der Käufer eine periodische Zahlung an den Käufer, bis entweder der Kredit ausfällt oder das Ende der Vertragslaufzeit erreicht ist.
