These measures have enabled the local stations and the SSNPS headquarters to exchange information and data rapidly for the first time.
The police force has strengthened its capacities and is better able to coordinate operations across the country, react to security incidents and protect the civil population.
As a consequence, the SSNPS played a commendable role during the 2010 elections and the referendum in January 2011.

As part of Germany’s commitment to rebuilding the police force in Afghanistan, the Federal Foreign Office (AA) has commissioned the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to set up a Project Implementation Unit (PIU) in order to build training centres and administrative buildings and run training courses for the police.
The programme is being implemented in conjunction with the German Police Project Team (GPPT) and the European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL Afghanistan).
