- Les A Levels sont des formations de deux ans suivies par les étudiants au niveau secondaire en Angleterre, au pays de Galles ainsi qu'en Irlande du Nord, après avoir passé le GCSE. Les étudiants débutent par les AS Levels puis passent des modules plus exigeants, les A2s, la deuxième année. Ils peuvent choisir parmi environ 70 matières à présenter aux examens (également appelés A Levels). La plupart choisissent 3 matières. Les A Levels sont notés sur une échelle de A à E, les devoirs comptant jusqu'à 30% de la note finale. Les cours mettent l'accent sur les compétences scolaires traditionelles et l'apprentissage autonome. Les A Levels sont obligatoires pour entrer à l'université et pour accéder à la plupart des emplois.
